Micro gallery

My latest gallery is all about flies, beetles, spiders, centipedes, woodlouses.... All those creatures look same to us - small bugs with many legs. And very often we are squeamish about them. And me? I am personally fascinated - all forms, shapes, colors resemble the time of Jurassic park! Small details - scales, eyes, claws - everything shows the adaptations gained throughout the evolution. They are interesting from many points of view. You can look at their irreplaceable role in ecosystem. Or as an bio-engineer learn from their adaptations. Or just let your imagination to be captured by ...

I have been working on my latest gallery for few months now. And it's such fun!

I started the project a year ago, but that time I had no idea how much I have to learn. That time I had experience only with regular macro made from hand. And maximal resolution I could reach was 5:1. That time I stitched pictures very rarely.I am still happy with pictures I got and you can see them in galley Small world. But in this project I decied to go to magnification 8:1 to 20:1. And this requires totally different approach. First of all you can't make a picture of living beetle (or only very rarely). I have to find dead beetles in good condition for the shot. And then I need to make them nice and tidy because they are very often in bad shape. This part can be frustrating as it not always brings the demanded result. 10:1 macro photography is technically challenging dispcipline as the step between indiviual single pictures is measured in μm and any small movement can ruin whole stack.

All the pictures are in high resolution as they are stitched not only for the depth of field but also for the size. Smallest picture is something around 5000px x 5000px, most pictures are 9000px x 9000px and the largest is rouhgly 15000px x 15000px. This technique requires a lot of patience as the amount of pictures needed for one final picture can vary between 1500 to 8000 single pictures.
